- Makar Sankranti is a Hindu Festival which goes after Solar Calendar while most of the Hindu festivals follow the Lunar Calender. And as it follows the Solar Calendar it all the time rejoiced on 14 January and sometimes because of the revolution of the earth it is delayed by one day.
- According to Astrology, on this day the sun enters from one Zodiac to other or also we can say it as sun moves from Tropic of Capricorn (Dakhshinayan) to Tropic of Cancer (Uttarayana). After Sankranti, the days become long and night becomes short. And also due to this it is also believed that it is a festival for moving from darkness to light, which in simple words means that as the day becomes large the sunlight will be more and the duration of darkness and night becomes less.
- It is also belived that Uttrayan is the day time of deity and Dakhshinayan is the night for God. It is alleged that the human being who forfeit his body(dies) in Uttarayan obtain a place in ‘Krishna Lok’. That person gets freedom from this earth and from the Chakra of Janam and Mrityu, whereas, the one who depart this life in Dakhshinayan, has to be reborn as per the Great Epic Bhagwad Geeta.
- Why Til (Sesame Seeds) have A Huge Importance in the Festival of Kites Makar Sankranti. There are many answers to this question, as the til and gur has great combination as a sweet, so it is gives a message that ‘eat these til seeds and jiggery (gur) and speak sweet words, as the til and gur are together.
